SYNOPSIS

This small web documentary is mainly about the repopulated village of Ernes. Different residents talk about their motivation to move to the countryside and live out their dream of a self-managed and sustainable way of life in a small community.

In urbanized Spain, where more than 80% of the people live in cities, thousands of villages are empty. In Negeuria, a small region of Galicia, depopulated in the 50's, during the Franco dictatorship by the construction of a reservoir, a group of people has brought life back to the region. This small web documentary is mainly about the repopulated village of Ernes. Different residents talk about their motivation to move to the countryside and live out their dream of a self-managed and sustainable way of life in a small community. Through audio interviews, photos, videos and texts, discover the individual joys, difficulties and conflicts of this living model, as well as fragments of the historical and social context of this place that I encountered during my stay as an outside observer. This project was created in 2016 together with photographer Philipp Meuser and writer Cale Garrido, as an ethnographic coursework within my studies of Visual Anthropology at the FU Berlin.
