Sharing our stories is essential for us to perceive ourselves. The self-help group is an important part of these 4-month workshops. Thanks to AOK and funds from the city of Berlin three projects were able to be funded between 2017-2019.
The basic idea was to organize a self-help group with newcomers and locals. In addition, camera training and a storytelling workshop was offered. Over a period of 12 weeks, the participants were able to learn how to use film and sound equipment and, more or less along the way, take part in a self-organized young self-help group. The participants also had the opportunity to overcome prejudices, get to know other cultures for the first time and expand their creative skills.
During the workshop, each participant made a film that told her or his story. At the end of the project, the participants presented these stories at a public event in a cinema with an audience. Here the participants could also share their experiences with the self-help group.
